The 8th Annual Not So Mini One on One and 9th Annual JBT game reached a new standard in 2024, setting a high donation total over $40,000.00.
The event, held annual each winter at the Merrill Fay Arena in Laconia, featured a hotly contested EHL matchup with the New England Wolves facing off against the NH Avalanche.
Online donations and support for the shooters prior to the event exceeded their goal total of $30,000.00 and kept climbing. By the night of the event on Saturday, the total was $40,212.00 with another few thousand dollars donated in person at the rink.
All the donations go to the Cure Starts Now foundation, whose motto reads, "The Cure Starts Now represents something truly different. For us it’s not about fighting just one cancer, but the elimination of cancer as a whole. We believe as the experts do; that in order to truly cure cancer you have to focus on those cancers that are the biggest bullies like DIPG. The Cure Starts Now is the first cancer charity dedicated to this “homerun cure.” To date, the NH Chapter for the Cure Starts Now has raised over 1 million dollars to go towards cancer research. With almost a thousand fans in attendance, the Wolves also honored Mischa Fay, a local boy and former Wolves Youth Hockey player who was tragically killed last New Years. His number 18 was retired in a ceremony during the first intermission by Wolves Management, and the number 18 was forfeited by current player Alex Valentini and handed to Mischa's father, Merrill Fay.
Wolves Management would like to Thank all the fans who attended and supported the event. All the shooters who raised money. The Eastern Hockey League and the NH Avalanche for participating. The Fay Family for allowing the Wolves to retire Mischa's number. Lastly but not least, a special Thanks to the Thompson Family for all their time and effort in putting the event together and for allowing the Wolves to play the game for their son John Bradley Thompson.
