Wolves to be Full Youth Hockey Program in 2024-25

Laconia, NH.  The New England Wolves, in working together with the Lakes Region Lakers, are pleased to become the only youth hockey program operating out of the Merrill Fay Arena starting in the 2024-25 season.  The Lakes Region Lakers, having proudly served the community dating back to the 1970s, will cease to offer youth hockey upon the conclusion of the 2023-24 winter season.

"We’re really excited to be able to offer youth teams next season.  For a kid to be able to play for the Wolves all the way from learn to play to junior hockey in one building is something special.  Our practice model that we’ll be offering, with the amount of ice time, great coaching and off ice training is something unique in this area and something we’re very proud of.  I’m personally looking forward to next season already". said Tim Kunes, Wolves EHL Head Coach & Director of Player Development.

The decision to make the transition from two separate, independently operated programs, and turn the program over to the New England Wolves came after months of talks and communication.  The Lakers, looking to respond to the many changes in the youth hockey environment in New Hampshire, felt it was time for a change in the landscape at the Merrill Fay Arena, and given the experience that the Wolves had offering teams U16 and older as well as at times coaching Learn to Play and Learn to Skate Programs, saw the 2024-25 season as the right time to do so.

"We are looking to create the ideal program for young athletes, and create a program that grows hockey in the area." said GM Andrew Trimble. "Our ambition is for all kids in the Lakes Region to have an opportunity to try and experience hockey… to develop multi-sport athletes, support our local schools, and have the Merrill Fay Arena be a hockey destination for families in the state of New Hampshire."

Tryouts for New England Wolves start on February 20th.  All parents are encouraged to register their youth player on the homepage of the Wolves website- www.ne-wolveshockey.com

The Wolves would like to personally thank the members of the Lakes Region Lakers board for sharing their vision for the future of hockey here in central New Hampshire, and look forward to serving the community for many years to come.
