Wolves Coaching Staff

Tim Kunes- EHL Head Coach & Director of Player Development, 2013/14 Youth team and Mites- Wolves Program

Tim is a native of Huntington, NY who completed 8 years of playing professionally.  In 2005 he was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes (5th Rd, 145th overall) and went on to attend Boston College on a 4- year athletic scholarship.  During his time at BC, he won multiple Hockey East Championships, the Beanpot, and an NCAA National Championship in 2008.

Prior to coaching with the Wolves, Tim played with the Trenton Devils in the ECHL, where he was named Trenton Devils Defenseman of the Year.  Following his stint in the ECHL, Tim made the jump to Europe.  Tim has played in the German, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish professional leagues.  During his time in Europe Tim has 3 times been named a First- Team All- Star and won (3) Norwegian Championships with the Stavanger Oilers.  Additionally he has won the German Cup and played in the Champions Hockey League.

During Tim’s playing career he has had the opportunity to be coached by some very well renowned junior, college and pro coaches including Jerry York and Greg Brown of Boston College, Gary Dineen and Lincoln Flagg of the New England Junior Falcons and Petter Thoresen , Head Coach of the Norwegian National Team which over time inspired him to begin his coaching career. 

He spent many summers coaching at the Aleksey Nikiforov Hockey Camp on Long Island.   He has coached in Europe with the Stavanger Oilers U20 team as a volunteer coach and at the Stavanger Oilers Junior Academy as a coach, with a focus on individual skill development.  

Tim is a dedicated and disciplined coach who has an emphasis on skill development.  He is training focused with high expectations and will work with each player individually on and off the ice to help them reach their highest potential.  

In his role as EHL Head Coach, Tim is tasked with moving top level junior players on to NCAA hockey and beyond, while continuing to promote development and a competitive team environment.  In 2019-20 Kunes' EHL team set a franchise high for wins in a season at the EHL level, recording 25 regular season wins and qualifying for the playoffs. In 2021-22, Kunes was chosen to coach one of the EHL's All Star teams for participation in the 2021 EHL All Star event.  Later that year he guided his EHL team to their first ever Frozen Finals appearance in Providence, RI.

As Director of Player Development, Tim oversees and plans skill sessions for entire Wolves organization.  He's in charge of the development of all players, youth through junior, and ensures each reaches their maximum potential by attending and contributing to various practices at all levels.

A native of Manasquan, NJ and former NCAA hockey player at SUNY- Buffalo State, Andrew is the Owner/ Head Instructor for Scoring Concepts LLC (www.scoringconcepts.com), a New Hampshire-based hockey training business that offers camps, clinics, private training, and tournament teams throughout the eastern seaboard.   In 2018-19 Trimble was awarded the Eastern Hockey League Premier’s “Coach of the Year” Honors.  Later that year, his EHLP team was awarded the league's "Humanitarian of the Year" award and claimed the first ever New England Wolves EHLP championship.

In 2017-18, Trimble was the Head Coach for the Wolves EHL (Top Division) team, taking a team that finished in last place the year prior and turning it around in 1 season, leading his team to the playoffs and setting a Wolves EHL (top division) franchise record for wins in a season.  

In his first 6 year run as a Junior Coach (2014-2020), Trimble's teams have helped to rebuild Laconia, NH as a Hockey destination.  With an emphasis on community involvement, activism, outreach and personal accountability; his team's recorded 144 wins in his 6 years as a JR Coach in Laconia.  During that time he was a League "Coach of the Year" once, finalist three times and coached in the EHL Elite All Star Game (2016).   His teams never missed post-season play.  He returned to coaching the EHLP team for the 2023-24 season and guided his team back the League's Frozen Finals, winning the New England Division Playoff Championship.

Prior to his time in JR Hockey, Trimble was a successful High School coach, taking over the program at Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro, NH, where in his first year with the program, his team posted the first winning season in 9 years and followed that with the only back to back playoff appearances in over a decade.  His success in the 2012-2013 season led to him being voted as the NHIAA DII Coach of the Year and Foster’s Daily Democrat “Dream Team” Coach.   Prior to his time at Kingswood, Trimble turned around the High School program at Jonathan Dayton High School in Springfield, NJ.  In his first season at JDHS (2009-2010) their 9 wins was the same win total as the 3 combined previous seasons, qualifying for an at-large NJ State tournament berth in his first year.

Trimble has been an evaluator for USA Hockey at the Rocky Mountain District camp and at SAHA.  In 2013, he wrote and developed the Championship Productions DVD release, "Home School Hockey", an instructional DVD that teaches players of all ages how to effectively use off- ice drills to develop their on- ice skills. 

Community service and volunteerism is a critical piece to the Wolves organizational goals.  As GM, Trimble and the coaching staff work together to create community service initiatives in the Lakes Region of NH.  To date, they have received two EHL Humanitarians of the year (2018 & 2019), two "Spirit of NH" awards (Fall of 2018 & 2022), and two EHL Community Service Awards (2021-22 & 2022-23).

In the Fall of 2021, the Wolves U16 AAA team won the NEPHL Premier National Championship and qualified for USA Hockey Regionals, the first Lakes Region based team to qualify for regionals at the Tier 1 USA Hockey level.

Mike Potenza- U18 Tier II Midget Head Coach

Lifelong NH Native, and graduate of Trinity HS in Manchester, NH.  Played collegiate hockey at Bryant College.  Over 25 years of Hockey Officiating and Coaching.

Mike is the current Head Coach at Kingswood Regional HS in Wolfeboro, NH, where he guided the Knights to their first home playoff win in over a decade (2015), and consistently fields playoff teams at the NHIAA Division II level.  With the Wolves, in the Fall of 2018, Mike guided his Wolves U18 Split Season team to an undefeated NEPHL regular season. In 2020, he led the Wolves U18 Split Midget team to a regular season championship in the Granite State Hockey League, before the season was cancelled due to COVID19.  He followed that terrific season up with Wolves U18 teams that became NH State Runner-up/ Finalists in both 2021 & 2022.

Additionally, Mike is a Skills Coach for Scoring Concepts LLC, and with Back Bay Youth Hockey.

Lou Loutrel- Assistant Coach Jr Teams, Goalie Coach & U14 Select

Coach Lou has 30 years of playing experience under his belt starting out as a skater and moving to goalie at age 8 where he has played ever since. While in youth hockey he was taught by Ztending owner, Coach Z, during his early years of coaching for Textbook Goaltending Schools with Craig Fiander. After playing at the junior and collegiate level, Coach Lou has become a goalie coach which has been one of his passions since college. He primarily trains Ztenders in the New Hampshire area, but can be found traveling to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Minnesota, and South Carolina to help coach Ztenders in the summer months.

Sam Danais- U16 Tier II Head Coach

Lifelong NH Native, and graduate of Kingswood HS in Wolfeboro, NH.  Key member of the 2018-19 EHL Premier New England Wolves championship team.  Played collegiate hockey at UNH for their ACHA program.  

Sam grew up playing for Back Bay Youth Hockey and is a member of the 100 point club during his High School career at Kingswood.  Following playing hockey, Sam is a graduate of UNH with a passion for teaching and coaching.  He has been a Skills Coach with Back Bay Youth Hockey, and Thunderbird Hockey Camps.

Craig Churchill- U16 Tier II Assistant Coach

In addition to coaching with the Wolves, Craig is the Head Women's Hockey Coach at the New Hampton School. NHS is  a 3 time NEPSAC champions and 8 time Lakes Region champions under Coach Churchill's tenure.   He has been coaching at the Prep Level for 22 years, with 14 as Head Coach.  

Dave Pollak- Academic Advisor & Peak Performance Coach

Dave Pollak, JD M.Ed, Professor MCIS, New England College and Adjunct Professor, Plymouth State University.

Mr. Pollak assists Wolves athletes in their academic endeavors.  Development and implementation of online course curriculum, study habits and test taking, college enrollment and much more.

As Peak Performance counselor, he meets with our athletes weekly and works with our athletes in:

Greg Sauers- Southeast Regional Scout

Greg grew up playing hockey in Florida before going on to play AAA hockey in Georgia for TPH Thunder. After finishing youth hockey, he moved on to play junior hockey in Texas (WSHL), New Hampshire (AJHL) and Wyoming (NA3HL). He played three years of NCAA DIII hockey at Aurora University (Aurora, IL). In his senior year he played ACHA DII for Aurora University where he was named Player of the Year for the Central Region and was selected to the All-American 1st selection team at Nationals. After his senior year, Greg continued pursuing pro hockey and had a brief stint in the FHL and SPHL. During his final two years of collegiate hockey, Greg also served as an assistant coach for the Marmion Cadets and won a High School Varsity Illinois State Championship. In Nashville, TN; Greg is currently coaching youth hockey, assisting Middle Tennessee State University (ACHA) and Greg also serves as the Head Coach for the Varsity Summit High School Hockey Team.

Daniel Cerny- European Scout

Daniel Cerny, a native of the Czech Republic, grew up playing hockey in the Czech league. He started to play hockey when he was just around four years old. He played European University Hockey League (EUHL) in season 2017/2018.  At 18, he was deciding between playing hockey professionally and coaching. The coaching path was more interesting for him as he knew that teaching others was his passion and at his age, he started his coaching career. He has the second-highest license of coaching in the Czech Republic and a few years would like to study license A, the highest in Czech. He lead and is still one of the biggest hockey camps in Czech named Czech Hockey Camp and he is a part of the team of project Škola Hokejovych Talent, patrons for the project are Jaromir Jagr and Tomas Plekanec. He had the pleasure to meet Andrew Trimble at a try-out camp in Velke Popovice in 2018 and from that time they cooperate on scouting new players for New England Wolves.
 

Tammy McKenzie- Host Family coordinator

Tammy McKenzie of Gilford, NH is a lifelong hockey enthusiast, and has had several billets live with her and her family since the 2018 season.   She has a passion for hockey that she shares with her family (husband John and children Heather and Aidan).  She is actively involved with youth sports at all levels,
