Laconia, NH.  The New England Wolves Junior hockey teams, in their opening weekend of the season, completed a clean sweep of their opponents, going 5-0.

“Great start to the season.  Great weekend.” said EHL Head Coach Tim Kunes.  “Really good effort and both goalies played great.”  “

The EHLP team went 3-0 ( all home games) defeating Central Penn Panthers (5-4) on Friday, Valley Warriors (11-1) on Saturday, and Walpole Express (5-3) on Sunday.  Wolfeboro, NH native Burke Ruel led the team in scoring on the weekend with 8 total points based on 2 goals and 6 assists. Jack Johansen was a standout on the defensive end while also recording 6 points.

The EHL team, playing both Friday and Sunday, defeated northern conference rivals in each of their games.  Friday afternoon they started off with 5-3 victory over the East Coast Wizards. Daniels Leja and Dominik Marcinkevics of Latvia combined for 5 points in the effort and Kris Muhr was solid in nets.  They followed up the Friday performance with a comeback effort, down 2 goals in the second period, winning 5-4 over powerhouse, the Walpole Express. Leja was a standout again with 4 assists and Marcinkevics recorded a hat trick.  Newcomer Zach Wagner recorded a goal in his first game since signing with team on Saturday.

“Still have room to improve, but the effort level was really high.  Overall really pleased.” Kunes commented.

The Wolves return to action next weekend with 4 more games as the EHLP hits the road versus the NJ Renegades, and the EHL travels down to play both the East Coast Wizards again and last years EHL Champion, NH Avalanche.  For more info go to Wolves Website- www.ne-wolveshockey.com
