Multiple Coaches & Mentors

Starting in 2018-19 the New England Wolves Junior Program will embark on a different path for development of their netminders.  Much like the Wolves “Den of Development” model (introduced in the Fall of 2017) made a huge impact on last years playoff teams, the Wolves Goaltender Development Program is expecting to have a similar impact.

Starting during 2018-19 Training Camp, Greg Lenti the former SUNY-Geneseo netminder, will work with the Wolves everyday for two weeks.  Focusing on On-Ice technique enhancement and Skill repetition, Coach Lenti will provide daily instruction at the start of the season.  Additionally, he will prepare Off Ice Seminars specifically for goaltenders on Mental Toughness and workouts that are tailored specifically for netminders.  “We have had great coaches here with our goalies in the past, but I think this new program will channel them off the ice and build a more complete athlete.” Said GM Andrew Trimble.

Following Training Camp, the Wolves goalies will integrate with the “Den of Development” model and have structured Monday afternoon Goalie-Only Sessions for all of their JR netminders.

Twice a month during these Goalie- Specific Monday Sessions, former Wolves EHL netminder and current NCAA standout, Kurt Gutting will run these 75 minute sessions.  Last season, Gutting was one of the top statistical netminders in the nation.

”What Kurt will provide will also be on-going mentorship.” Said Trimble.  “He’s living it now and seen first hand what it takes.  He provides relative experience for our kids to navigate recruitment, placement, overcoming mental barriers, staying positive and much more....”

”All of our goalies have ability.” Stated EHL Head Coach Tim Kunes. “We aren’t trying to re-invent their games here.  Instead, we are trying to develop that bridge from where they are to where they want to be.... NCAA hockey.”

In this program and using this structure, the Wolves goalies will have  almost 100 hours of personal Goaltender instruction (Both On and Off the Ice) throughout the 2018-19 campaign.
