MANSFIELD, Mass. – Senior Chris Moquin (Hooksett, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team was named First Team All-Northeast-10Conference on Friday, as the league announced its major award winners and All-Conference honorees.
Moquin headlined a list of five Penmen selections, as senior Matt McLelland (Reading, Mass.) was a Second Team All-NE10 choice, while freshmen Zack Ciampa(Revere, Mass.), Kyle Galloway (Sugar Hill, Ga.) and Max Kent (Sandwich, Mass.) were tabbed to the All-Rookie Team.
Moquin turned in his finest season in a Southern New Hampshire uniform in 2017-18, as he registered career highs in both goals and points en route to his first career All-NE10 distinction. The senior captain leads the Northeast-10 in goals with 19, is tied for the league lead in game-winning goals (4) and sits third in points (27) in just 23 games. Moquin tallied at least one point in 18 games, notched seven multi-point efforts and turned in a pair of three-point outings to help vault SNHU to the top of the NE10 team scoring charts at just under four goals per game. In the penultimate weekend of the regular season, Moquin netted a hat trick in a 6-2 win over Stonehill College on February 9 before adding a goal and an assist against the Skyhawks the following afternoon to secure a postseason berth for Southern New Hampshire.
McLelland garnered All-Northeast-10 laurels for the first time in his career after anchoring the Penmen defensive corps. The Reading, Massachusetts native amassed a career-high 14 points on a goal and 13 helpers, which more than doubled his career point total. McLelland has appeared in each of Southern New Hampshire's 23 games thus far and ranks fourth in the NE10 in both scoring by a defenseman and points per game by a defenseman, and his presence on both the powerplay and penalty kill has propelled the Penmen to the top of the conference in special teams efficiency.
Ciampa has seen action in all 23 Penmen contests during his first season in Manchester and has tallied eight points thus far. The freshman blue liner is currently tied for No. 10 in freshman scoring and No. 12 is scoring by a defenseman in the Northeast-10, as he has one goal and seven assists to his credit. Ciampa was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week on January 22 after he logged four assists and generated a plus-five rating in a 6-1 win over Franklin Pierce University.
Galloway earns All-Rookie Team honors after producing 10 points through his first 19 collegiate games. The Sugar Hill, Georgia product has scored four times and assisted on six additional goals, which is good enough to sit fifth in the NE10 in freshman scoring. Galloway was named the NE10 Rookie of the Week on December 11, 2017 after he scored twice to help Southern New Hampshire cap its first semester with a 5-0 blanking of league rival Saint Michael's College.
Kent made an immediate impact on both ends of the ice for the Penmen in his rookie season, as he has compiled 12 points through his first 22 career games. The freshman defenseman is currently second in scoring amongst all freshmen in the Northeast-10, regardless of position, in scoring with one goal and 11 assists while sitting in a tie for fifth in scoring by a defenseman. Kent is fourth on the Penmen in assists, ninth in points and eighth in plus-minus with a plus-five rating.
Southern New Hampshire enters the 2018 Northeast-10Conference Championship as the No. 4 seed, and will make the trip across town to Sullivan Arena for a semifinal matchup against Saint Anselm College Saturday at 7 p.m.
