Former New England Wolves star defenseman Tord Thoresen has signed his first professional contract with Manglerud Star, www.mshockey.no,

In his home country of Norway, Manglerud Star plays in the top pro division and Coach David Livingston is high on Thoresen to come in and strengthen his back line.  “We are looking to increase our defensive strength and Tord is a player we have followed since he played in Manglerud Star as a young player before moving to Lillehamer hockey and ultimately in the US for the past 6 seasons”, states Livingston.   “Tord is a competitive and highly skilled defenseman who logged 25-30 minutes and played in all situations for our club,  states Wolves Coach Steve Jacobs.  He is an elite skater who sees the ice and demonstrates great escapability”.  His pro skating, offensive instincts and defensive battle make him a strong 2-way player who’s game will translate well to the European game”.  In 55 games Thoreson posted a 11-30-41 line and team leading +41 with the Wolves before embarking on a successful 4 year career at Plymouth State University where he was a captain his senior year.

“Tord was an incredible piece of our team for 4 years, salutes Plymouth coach Craig Russell.  He was our top defenseman as a sophomore and junior, and led us in +/- both of those years.  He always took care of himself off the ice, and prepared like a pro both mentally and physically.  It’s no surprise to me that he’s getting this opportunity with the Mangelud Stars, and I know he will have success with his new team.  We wish him all the best and are so proud of the man Tord has become.  He will always be a part of the Panther family”.

“Tord is a high character, balanced and success-oriented person who came to the US to get his education and will continue that mission in a masters program while continuing his hockey career.”, concludes  Jacobs.  Congratulations and good luck Tord!
