A native of Melrose Massachusetts, Coach Brett Tryder takes the position of Head Coach with the New England Wolves Premier team. Tryder’s coaching experience includes a ten year stint at Plymouth State University where he spent 7 years as the Panthers Head Coach, and 4 successful years with the New England Wolves.  Tryder comes from a family of coaches and had a successful playing career at Melrose High School, which led to his playing at both Salem State and Fitchburg State Universities.

Tryder’s college coaching career was very successful as he took over a struggling Plymouth State University program and transformed the team into a yearly contender. His 2005-2006, team still holds the record for the schools best conference winning percentage. Tryder left Plymouth State with 23 returning players after the 2009-2010 season when he was offered a full time position with the Wolves. “I was fortunate to be offered a full time position with The Wolves. I am also happy that I could leave Plymouth in a great situation having 23 returning players and a brand new rink on campus. I left Plymouth because I couldn’t pass up a full time coaching position. I enjoyed my years at Plymouth”. The Panthers made outstanding contributions to the community, and also made great strides in the classroom during Tryder’s impressive seven-year head coaching tenure, improving their collective GPA by nearly one full grade point and placing more athletes on the conference’s All-Academic Team than any of their competitors. Tryder finished his college coaching career with an 86-79-11 overall record and a 62-42-8 conference record.  As an Associate Head Coach with the Wolves from 2011-2014 Tryder teamed up with Steve Jacobs coaching the team to a 110-33-12 record.

Coach Tryder grew up surrounded by coaches. His father Bill Tryder was a baseball and hockey coach at Melrose High School and his grandfather Joe Hoague was a legendary football coach at Melrose High School.  “I am fortunate to have been surrounded by great coaches growing up.  “I will never forget the long conversations that I had with my grandfather, or my Sundays spent listening to Massachusetts Hall of Fame coaches Ed Burns and Henry Hughes talking hockey in the coach’s locker room at Hockey Town, Saugus”.

Tryder had a successful playing career at Melrose High School where he had 100 points in his three years as a Red Raider. In 1989 he broke the all-time, single season, scoring record at Hockey Night in Boston, which was previously held by former NHL players Bobby Carpenter and Mike Kelfer.

“I am very much looking forward to coaching at the Premier level. The Wolves and EHL have great records of placing student athletes in strong college programs. I am also looking forward to being in Laconia where the community has a strong history of supporting their hockey teams. It will be exciting, and I look forward to bringing a competitive program back to Laconia”.

“We are fortunate and excited to have Brett take the Head Coach position of the Premier team,” says Owner/GM Steve Jacobs.  “He has been a successful coach for 15 years and is a strong teacher of the game.  I have worked closely with Brett and have been impressed with his knowledge of the game and his determination to move his players on to the next level.  He is a respected mentor for our student athletes”.
