In a big EHL road game in Bedford, MA Friday afternoon Matthew Toombs scored 2 goals and added an assist and Kurt Gutting stopped 33 of 35 shots to lead the Wolves to a 5-2 win over the East Coast Wizards.  The win moved the Wolves 5 points ahead of the Wizards and closer to a playoff berth.  The Wolves would learn they clinched on Sunday.

The Wolves showed their readiness for the road challenge and came out flying to take the lead just 1:24 into the game.  On the play Nick Chaoush finished a nice passing play with Matthew Toombs and Alex Sauer before tucking home a wrist shot to the short side.  The goal energized the visitors and they continued to press.  Just over 2 minutes after the Chaoush goal Matthew Toombs made it 2-0 with assists to Ryan Dunn and Andrew Lee.  The goal came after Toombs loosened up a puck on big hit on the forecheck and Dunn and Lee played give and go before Dunn found Toombs in the slot who quickly drilled home a low rip.  The fast Wizards forwards pushed back at this point but a couple of key Gutting saves and strong team defense kept them off the board as the visitors headed to the intermission leading 2-0.

The game continued at a torrid up and down pace in the second period and the Wolves would make it 3-0 at 3:14 when Evan Ferraro came off the right wall at the top of the circle and snapped home a low drive to the short side.  It was the completion of a nice rush when Daniel Hall fed Joe Flanagan who then found Ferraro sprinting over the blue line.  The Wizards were quick to answer this one however when Connor Demore  made it 3-1 after a flurry in front of the net just 25 seconds after the Ferraro goal.  The Wizards would close it to 3-2 at 8:32 on the power play, and the action picked up end to end and physical but with no additional scoring in the period.

The third period continued at the same pace over the first half with both teams getting quality chances but coming up empty.  The Wolves then took charge again on Toombs’ second goal of the game at 13:39 when he drove to the net and fired home a Nick Chaoush rebound to give his club a 4-2 lead.  On the play Chaoush stole the puck in the neutral zone a raced by the defense before putting a low wrister on net.  The penalty killing unit came up big under strong Wizards   power play pressure in the last 4 minutes as the defensive unit of Armstrong, Munck, Kent, Mack (4 blocks on one shift), Hall and Olevitz were immense.  Ryan Dunn sealed it with an unassisted open net goal at 19:09 for the 5-2 final.
