NE Wolves 3, Philadelphia Jr Flyers 2

Wolves left wing Zach Sullivan (Weymouth, MA) took a neutral zone pass from Ryan Dunn (Rockland, MA) and raced down the left side before putting home a hard snap shot that proved to be the game winner with 42 seconds left in the Wolves opening game of the EHL Showcase in Simsbury, CT Saturday afternoon.  Cam Armstrong (Salisbury, MA) also assisted by starting the play on the breakout passing to Dunn who quickly relayed it to Sullivan on the flank.  The game was an end to end battle on the Olympic ice in Simsbury, CT with both goaltenders playing strong.  The Wolves Kurt Gutting was outstanding making many key saves.  Wolves defenseman Daniel Hall (Lakoping, Sweden) put the Wolves up 1-0 driving a point shot home with assists to Nick Chaoush (Westfield, MA) and Chris Peters (Fairport, NY).  The Junior Flyers scored the next two at 23:58 and 24:41 of the first 25 minute showcase format half for a 2-1 lead at intermission.  The Wolves came out strong in the second half and tied the game at 9:55 when Chris Peters wristed one home on the power play with Trevor Mack (Ashburn, VA) assisting, setting the stage for the Sullivan game winning goal.

Philadelphia Revolution 3, NE Wolves 1

The Wolves took the ice just 16 hours later in a 10am Sunday match with former NHL star Keith Primeau’s Revolution.  The game proved to be an evenly played game with the Wolves outshooting the Revolution 29-26 but were unable to solve Revs goalie Mike Cosentino until Nick Chaoush scored from Cam Armstrong and Justin Munck (Conway, NH) with 3 minutes left to bring it to 3-1 and give his team a chance to pull the goalie.  The Wolves pressed hard with the extra attacker firing 3 shots in a row from point blank but were unable to score as the game ended 3-1.  Wolves goaltender Garret Mello (Agoura Hills, CA) played strong stopping 23, including several key saves to keep his club close.

Philadelphia Little Flyers 4, NE Wolves 3

In the 8am final game of the showcase the Wolves clawed back from a 4-1 deficit only to lose

4-3 when a Little Flyers defenseman inadvertently blocked an Alex Sauer rebound wrist shot that looked to be heading into a wide open net with seconds left.  The Little Flyers scored the first 2 in this one at 7:40 and 11:25 of the first for the 2-0 lead but the Wolves proved resilient and Ryann Dunn took a feed from Alex Sauer (Johns Creek, GA) and raced past the defense to score a short-handed break away goal at 22:03 and bring his club to within one at the intermission.  The strong Little Flyers team came out fast in the second half scoring at 1:48 and again at 4:52 for a 4-1 lead.  The Wolves would not go easy though and made it 4-2 on a tremendous individual effort by Matthew Toombs (Pleasonton, CA) who won a puck battle and sprinted into the Little Flyers end before depositing a hard snap shot off the post and in at 11:51 to give the Wolves new life.  The hard fought game became a physical battle at this point and the Wolves Nick Chaoush made it 4-3 at 23:36 from Dunn and Munck setting the stage for furious Wolves pressure with the extra attacker on, only to be denied.  Wolves goaltender Joe Longo was strong throughout stopping 37 Little Flyers shots.
