Wolves 4, Warriors 3 (SO) – Ryan Dunn scored the game clinching shootout goal Friday night in Waterville Valley as the Wolves EHL club opened the season with the 4-3 shootout win.  The game was a hard fought competitive game with many momentum swings and strong goaltending at both ends of the ice.  The game featured the league’s first new 3 on 3 overtime period.  The Wolves kept fighting back in this one as Cam Armstrong took a feed from Tal Finberg and rifled a bullet home from the point to tie the game at 1-1, answering an early Valley power play goal.  The Warriors would take the lead again early in the 2nd period before Wolves winger Andrew Lee snapped home a hard wrist shot to tie it at 2-2 with assists going to Joe Flanagan and Nick Chaoush.  The play was a nice finish after strong Wolves pressure.  The Wolves would take their first lead of the game just 46 seconds into the 3rd when Finberg converted off a nice passing play with Zack Sullivan and Evan Ferraro who both assisted on the goal.  It was the Warriors turn to come back this time as they seized momentum mid-way through the period and finally tied it at 3-3 at 12:35.  Wolves goaltender Kurt Gutting (36 saves) was outstanding as the Warriors buzzed before finally getting one past him.  The game turned into a wide open up and down game after the goal, ending regulation 3-3.  The 3 on 3 sudden death over-time period saw the Wolves apply solid pressure but unable to convert, leading to the exciting shootout round.  With the visiting team shooting first according to EHL league rules, the Warriors started with a goal to put early pressure on the Wolves shooter Jake Saxe.  Saxe was up to the task though deking and tying the round at 1-1.  Valley added to the pressure scoring again in the second round before Alex Sauer snapped a hard wrist shot home to tie it once again.  With Valley up shooting again and the excitement mounting Kurt Gutting made a huge stop on a five-hole attempt setting the stage for Ryan Dunn who ended it with a slick deke to his backhand to secure the 2 points.

Warriors 6, Wolves 3

The Wolves travelled to Breakaway Sports in Haverhill Mass Saturday afternoon for the second game of the home and home series suffering a tough 6-3 loss.  When first line center Alex Sauer went down with a severe wrist injury 3 minutes into the game the Wolves prospects seemed bleak but the team fought hard only to make too many second period mistakes to let the game get away from them.  The Warriors started fast again as they did Friday night taking a 1-0 lead 6:33 into the 1st.  Jake Saxe had a quick answer though taking a pass from Trevor Mack and slipping home the first of his 2 goals in the game to tie it at 6:58.  The Wolves would score again to take the lead at 8:57 on a great individual effort by Nick Chaoush. After taking a breakout pass from Andrew Olevitz and racing down the left side Chaoush walked a Warrior Defenseman and put a backhand deke home.  The Warriors tied it again on the power play at 10:17 as the teams entered the room tied at 2-2.  The Warriors came out strong in the second and took advantage of several Wolves turnovers to score the next 3 goals for a 5-2 lead after 2.  The Wolves came out fighting hard in the 3rd period applying strong pressure throughout before bringing it to 5-3 when Jake Saxe stole the puck in the neutral zone and sprinted to the top of the circle before ripping a hard wrist shot home.  The Wolves continued to put consistent pressure in the Warriors end but couldn’t get another one by the Warriors goalie.  The Warriors would end the Wolves come-back hopes at the 17:30 mark when a blocked shot ricochet ended up on the stick of the Warriors Henning Dahlberg who put it into the open net past Wolves goalie Garret Mello. Both goalies were under siege in this wide open contest with the Wolves holding a slight 43-42 shot advantage for the game.  The Wolves next game is Friday afternoon at 4pm when they take on the New Hampshire Jr Monarchs at Waterville ice arena.
