The New England Wolves MJHL, using the momentum from the 6-2 win over the Boston Bandits last weekend, defeated the Philadelphia Revolution on Saturday at the President’s Day Showcase in Hackensack, NJ to clinch an MJHL Playoff Berth.  The Wolves entry into the 2015 MJHL playoffs is the first playoff berth for a USA Hockey sanctioned, Laconia- based Junior Hockey team since the 2010-11 season.

Saturday’s 5-1 victory featured 4 different scorers.  Sam Mayberry of Colorado started the scoring on a beautiful line rush by  Kevin Morello and Blake Babineau.  Morello would himself score 2 more times, assisted first by Babineau and then by Hunter Craig.  Two defenseman, Shawn Sullivan and Will Francis would contribute goals after Morello’s first tally; assists going to Bryce Ricker and Mikhail Astakhov on the Sullivan goal, and Jared Wood and Sam Mayberry on the Francis goal.  Mentor, Ohio native John Hagan would be stellar in nets, stopping 18 of the 19 shots he faced. “One of the hallmarks of this team is getting contributions from everyone.  Each night presents a new opportunity for somebody else to step up.” commented Wolves Coach Andrew Trimble.

The Wolves return to action in 2 weeks (February 27th & March 1h) with games in Tewksbury, MA and Hooksett, NH.  These are rescheduled games that had to be made up due to inclement weather conditions.  These will be the final regular season games before the Wolves take on the MJHL Playoffs in Cromwell, CT, March 5-8.

The Wolves staff would like to thank all the host families involved with housing players this season.  The Rowley’s of Belmont, The Tucker’s, the Riley’s, the Ricker’s and Angel Ayers of Laconia, Cindy Baron of Gilford, and the Grasso’s of Wolfeboro.  “Without these great families opening up their homes, these young men would not have this experience.  Thank you.”
