Gary W. Stephan, 71, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025. He succumbed to respiratory complications while
battling lung cancer.

A proud US Marine veteran, with a career in law enforcement, some of Gary's greatest joys in life were spending time on Crystal Lake and the beautiful lakes in central New Hampshire, and watching his family play hockey.

He and his wife of nearly 50 years, Laura, served as host family to their nephew Matt Stephan (and his dog Baker) when he was a goaltender on the EHL squad in the 2019-20 season.  Gary could be seen at the rink, smile on his face, supporting and encouraging both Matt and his team, the New England Wolves.

The Wolves, working in concert with the Stephan family, are pleased to announce "Uncle Gary's Goalies Scholarship", which will go to help families of youth goalies playing for the Wolves afford their tuition for the 2026-27 season.

All goalies when signing up for the 2026-27 season will receive a discount code that will reduce their tuition costs in memory of Gary Stephan.

"This is a wonderful gesture put forward by Laura and the Stephan family."  said GM Andrew Trimble. "Matt was one of the finest goaltenders we ever had, and we thank the Stephan family for thinking of the kids in our program to receive a gift from such a devoted and wonderful man, Gary Stephan."

Below is the obituary for Gary Stephan as well as pictures of him and his nephew Matt's time with the Wolves.

Thank you again to Laura, Matt and the entire Stephan family.  Our hearts feel for you at this time of great loss, and we look forward to brighter days ahead and honoring Gary with this scholarship program.
