Headed home to the Milton Keynes Lightning

The New England Wolves EHL team is proud to announce the signing of 2000 birth year defender Sam Russell to a pro contract in his native United Kingdom, with the Milton Keynes Lightning of the NIHL.

Head Coach Lewis Clifford commented, "He has been away and received some excellent hockey education, both here and across the Atlantic in North America... he has all the attributes he needs to make a success of it both physically and mentally, he is a very switched on lad."

Sam came to the Wolves in 2018-19 after playing for the Ontario Hockey Academy and representing Great Britain at the U18 World Championships.  "I feel as if my hockey career has gone full circle, and I am returning home to where it all started." Sam said.

“Moving to Laconia with the wolves was an incredible season. The lakes region is a beautiful place, with an awesome hockey community. At the wolves, you’re treated like professionals, and I’ve never met coaching staff so dedicated to the program that make you want to work your bag off every day. The competition level in the EHL is next to none, every guy chasing the next stage brings the talent and compete level up another gear. I was surrounded by awesome teammates, an amazing billet family, it’s an experience I’ll never forget. The upcoming season holds a lot for me, I have teammates, my billets and coaching staff all showing they’re support!” Russell said.

The Wolves wish Sam tremendous success in this next step in his career path.  GO WOLVES.
